Going Back to School
It’s important to us to give back to the next generation of cosmetology and barber students. We go into each school to teach something that may not be part of their education curriculum. We try to inspire the students by exposing them to something they may have not considered.
For the typical cosmetology student, they see their life in a salon working on mostly women’s hair. Considering a career in a barbershop may never be considered but when they see someone who doesn’t fit the stereotypical image of a “barber”, they can more easily see themselves also in that role. The opportunity of working in a barbershop has really evolved over the past 20 years. We have many people working in the 30-hour range earning over $50,000 per year. We’ll have a few over $100,000 soon.
Our Team Members who participate in going into the schools also get a lot out the experience. It adds another dimension to their hair career and breaks up the familiarity of their day-to-day routine. Our Team brings a different energy and excitement to the schools and in turn feeds off the energy of the students.
We look at our role in the schools as adding to the student’s education by providing more of a real-world experience in the hair industry.
